THIS DISH IS AN HOMAGE TO MY MOM’S SCHOOL NIGHT COOKING WHEN I WAS A KID. I’VE KEPT MOST OF MY MOM’S RECIPE INTACT, MAKING ONLY TWO CHANGES: I’VE REPLACED HER VELVEETA WITH SHARP CHEDDAR CHEESE, AND I’VE ADDED BACON. BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH BACON. ALONGSIDE ARE TWO DISHES THAT’LL STICK TO YOUR INSIDES AND CHARM YOUR TASTE BUDS. MY BARBECUE BAKED BEANS PROVIDE A NICE BLEND OF SMOKY, SAVORY SWEETNESS (PLUS MORE BACON), AND THE MASHED SWEET POTATOES OFFER LOTS OF CREAMY RICHNESS. ALL THE TEXTURES AND FLAVORS COMBINED MAKE FOR THE PERFECT MEAL FOR THE KID AT HEART. — DAINA FALK
